HOW TO PREPARE AFRICAN BREAD FRUIT (ukwa)
Bread fruit popularly known as a Ukwa is the best Igbo delicacy. The scientific name is Treculia africana . Ukwa is such a versatile food with a natural delicious flavor. It can be cooked plain without any ingredients. It can also be prepared as a porridge. Before preparing ukwa . Porridge you need to dehusk the Ukwa seeds. Ukwa does not require much ingredients. The important ingredients you need are :
1. Potash
2. Palm oil
3. Fresh pepper
4. Seasoning (optional)
5. Salt
COOKING DIRECTIONS
1. Put the thoroughly washed ukwa in pot.
2. Put enough water .
3. Add the edible potash
4. Add enough palm oil .
5. Cover and cook on medium heat till it becomes soft. Stir thoroughly and the Ukwa is ready to be served.
