During an event marking International Women’s Day, the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs (NAWE), Abuja Chapter, called on the government to allow it to carry out its designated roles. NAWE FCT Director, Mrs. Margaret Atsevah, expressed concerns that other offices are taking over the association’s responsibilities, limiting its effectiveness.
She highlighted NAWE’s mission, which includes supporting women entrepreneurs, facilitating resource mobilization, and advocating for their economic empowerment. She criticized the current situation where ministries and parastatals represent NAWE at international events and urged for proper recognition of the association’s role.
Other speakers at the event, including NAWE FCT Assistant Director, Mrs. Margaret Adekoya and TreMac CEO Mrs. Aniesua Bernard, emphasized the importance of women empowering each other to reduce financial dependency on men. Radio Nigeria’s Director of Programmes also praised women entrepreneurs for their resilience and encouraged organizations to promote gender equality.
