1,The term “indigenous Americans” refers to the original inhabitants of North and South America, who were living on the continent long before the arrival of Europeans. This includes a wide range of different groups and cultures, such as the Inuit, Aleut, and Yupik peoples of the Arctic, the Navajo and Apache peoples of the American Southwest, the Iroquois Confederacy of the eastern woodlands, and the Mapuche and Quechua peoples of South America, among many others. These groups had rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and languages that were largely decimated by European colonization.
2,While Christopher Columbus is often credited with discovering America, it’s more accurate to say that he was the first European to reach the continent. Indigenous Americans had already been living in North and South America for thousands of years before Columbus arrived. In fact, there is evidence that other Europeans, such as the Vikings, had reached the New World before Columbus. The true “discoverers” of America were the Indigenous people who had called it home for generations. Columbus’ arrival marked the beginning of European colonization, which had a devastating impact on the native population.

1,Native Americans, sometimes called American Indians, First Americans or Indigenous Americans, are the Indigenous peoples of the United States or portions thereof, such as American Indians from the contiguous United States and Alaska Natives. The United States Census Bureau defines Native American as “all people indigenous to the United States and its territories, including Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders, whose data are published separately from American Indians and Alaska Natives”.[4] The US census tracks data from American Indians and Alaska Native separately from Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders,[4] who include Samoan Americans and Chamorros
2,Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the Americas in 1492. Americans get a day off work on October 10 to celebrate Columbus Day
